As we recognise International Men's Health Week from 10-16 June 2024, Friends for Good is committed to highlighting crucial statistics that shed light on men's health issues. This week is an opportunity to address the unique challenges men face and encourage proactive health measures.

Did you know?

  • 43% of males aged 16-85 report having a mental disorder at some point in their lifetime[1]
  • 22% of males report having an anxiety related and substance use (27%) disorder.[2]
  • Every day in Australia, approximately seven men die by suicide.[3]
  • Men are less likely to seek help for mental health conditions than women.[4]
  • Men who are socially connected are more likely to have significantly better mental health.[5]

These statistics reveal the urgent need for increased awareness and support for men's mental health. Understanding these challenges is the first step towards addressing them.

But you can help.

  • Promote mental health awareness and provide resources for men to seek help. Normalising discussions about mental health can reduce stigma and encourage men to reach out and ask for help.
  • Use social media and other platforms to share these statistics and raise awareness about men's health. By sharing personal stories and testimonials you can inspire others to take action.
  • Connect with organisations like Friends for Good who help break down the barriers for social isolation and loneliness through Friendline and our telehealth counselling service.

By sharing these statistics and encouraging proactive mental health measures, we can make a significant impact on the well-being of men in our communities.
