There are many gaps in current service provision. People are telling us they are lonely.
We are planning a range of services including events and ‘Pastime Partners’, a service matching volunteers with seniors to create new friendships.
This is an area where Australia has much work to do.
We need to know what the prevalence of loneliness is in our country, which groups are most affected and what the financial cost is, so that we can inform policy and future planning.
In order to break down the stigma surrounding loneliness, we plan to undertake public education campaigns so that there is increased awareness about the detrimental effects of loneliness and strategies to deal with it.
