Over the summer Friends for Good was lucky enough to work on a project in partnership with DQUBE Solutions. Two skilled interns from the University of Melbourne worked with us to create a data visualization of our latest research findings.
Here are some reflections from one of the interns, Tristan Desombre, on his experience.
“As a student, I am constantly looking for ways to apply my knowledge on real world problems. I have found volunteering to be the perfect way to gain experience while doing good. Having volunteered on multiple occasions in the past, I was already sold on the benefits it brings.
Friends for Good gave me the opportunity to work on a data visualisation on the theme of loneliness in Australia. I am fully aware of the importance of mental health and believe not enough is done in Australia. I saw the project as a way to contribute towards spreading awareness, giving more importance to these issues.
I undertook the project over summer with Dave, a data science student that I can now call a friend. Working with people who are deeply passionate about what they do is special and it was amazing to see my skills being used differently, with an outcome I am truly proud of.”
